Puzzle of the day
Hello chess players! Today I'm going to discuss the puzzle of the day here on Lichess! Here is the puzzle:
If we look at this position, we see white has three pawns for a minor piece. First, we look for forcing moves. Our pawns don't have many constructive moves. Even 1.c7, which looks like one of those brilliant sacs you see on Youtube, doesn't do much. Just 1...Kxc7. So, we look at king moves. There are only three to calculate. We can cross 1.Ka5 and 1.Kc4 off our list, as they just delay. They don't really have a purpose behind them. So that leaves us to 1.Ka6, hitting the bishop. Now if black moves his bishop out of danger, we see the point. 1.Ka6 was played with tempo so we can bring the king to b7. After this, the task becomes suddenly easy, as the bishop is basically a ghost! 1.Ka6 Bd4 2.Kb7 and c8=Q next move.
I hope you enjoyed this puzzle! Please like this post and follow me for more content like this in the future. Bye!!!
