My current favorite player is Mikhail Botvinnik. Mikhail Botvinnik was born 17.08.1911 in St Petersburg, defeated Jose Capablanca in a simultaneous exhibition 20.11.1925. His senior comrade Yakov Rokhlin a famous organizer who attributed to Lenin authorship of the phrase, 'Chess is the gymnasium of the mind.'
