A chess engine written from scratch in Python, with no chess libraries: negamax with alpha-beta, a transposition table, quiescence search, and an evaluation fitted by Texel tuning. Hosted on PyPy, played over UCI.
A first-year student's learning project, where every change had to be measured rather than guessed.
