The Lichess Variant Revolutions are back! With orthodox chess growing in popularity in recent years, it is about time for variants to experience their own boom. A lot of people in the variants community are excited to see the Revolutions come back, so let us all hope that these tournaments will ignite widespread interest in variants in the chess community as a whole.

Q: What's with the name "Revolution"?

Glad you asked! We didn't want players to confuse these with our regular Marathon events, so we needed something new and catchy. Revolution references Earth’s revolution about its axis every day (OK, that's rotation, but hey!), as well as the revolution this author hopes to spark in the chess community’s love for chess variants!
