Top 10 Outrageously Aggressive Chess Openings
Here are some ideas for aggressive openings to try out and have fun with :)Hi all
You may not have seen my popular aggressive openings video on Youtube:
( My chess opening theory playlist is here: http://kingscrusher.tv/chessopeningtheory )
Hope you like some of these!
Example blitz game vs a GM where I used the Romantic era King's Gambit:
Final position
I feel many of these are perfectly playable especially on fast and furious online time controls. So ideal for bullet, super-blitz, blitz time controls. Quite often you want the opponent having to spend time to find accurate defensive moves - and quite often you can just sustain the attacking pressure until the opponent's break or lose on time.
Additionally playing some of the gambits in this video increases the tactical intensity of games - making them more about "hand to hand combat" which can be useful battlegrounds for practicing tactical skills and finding amazing resources generally.
Funny enough, I do have a course called the "Fun Lover's guide to chess openings" which may be worth checking out: https://kingscrusher.tv/chessopenings where I give a lot of fun systems and gambits as recommendations. I feel openings are within a given context - and for online fun chess, you can get away with riskier openings which may intensify the fun to be had.
Cheers, K
Key Takeaway points
- Aggressive openings really have a great place in faster time controls like bullet and blitz chess where having the initiative is generally more important than more classical time controls
- Aggressive openings can give you a richer tactical experience to practice tactics and find amazing resources in "post-mortem" analysis of games
- Many of these suggestions are Gambits - trading off material for piece activity. Piece activity often gives rise to sharp tactical combinations.
- Chess often expresses "Trade off theory" - which is a powerful concept not just in chess but in many domains. In chess, the classic tradeoff of Material to gain piece activity and Initiative cannot be underestimated in faster time controls.
