Magnus Carlsen's funniest ever chess opening
This bullet game was played against a Grandmaster opponentHi all
I video annotated one of Magnus Carlsen's funniest ever openings and games here:
https://youtu.be/6OVkC%5FlDscY
(My Magnus Carlsen playlist is here: https://kingscrusher.tv/carlsen )
After 1.e4 the game started solidly with the Caro-Kann defence - a choice of both Tigran Petrosian and Anatoly Karpov :
Nc3 Qa5
Interesting
Nf3 f6
Which the engines give a question mark. But for humans this gives an interesting aesthetic for the queen to "go round the block" soon:
d4 Qh5
Be2 and now a square clearance just in time with Ke8:
Ne5 Qe8
And we can presume now that the Grandmaster with the White pieces probably hasn't studied this particular position for too long in the past. Presumably, they are now "on their own resources".
Nd3 e5
Clearly black has equalised now, and Magnus went on to win crushingly:
Final position
Takeaway points
- Unusual openings force the opponent to improvise and use time on the clock
- Even the World champion experiments with fun openings, and the faster the time control, the more fun is to be had!
- The Queen's energy is celebrated with this opening allowing the queen to kind of do a morning "run around the block". Exercise is often a good thing.
- Openings may not mean as much on the faster time limits as being tactically and positionally strong. If one is strong both tactically and positionally one can improvise more with any opening within reason even against a Grandmaster opponent
- Magnus is unusually strong at bullet chess - relative to other Grandmasters and seemingly can play anything!
Hope you enjoyed this blog :). Any likes and follows are really appreciated. Also, I also have some interesting chess courses at https://kingscrusher.tv/chesscourses to check out.Cheers, K
