My grandfather taught me, about 50 years ago now! He was a great player, but what patience he must have had to teach a newbie kid. He used to beat early chess playing machines, even on their hardest levels! Since then I went through spurts of playing when I found like-rated friends or roommates, which was always a pleasure. Then various internet platforms expanded possibilities.
