I learned when I was eight and played off and on, mostly online. A few years ago i started teaching chess to the beginning players at elementary schools. These are not typically kids who go to tournaments. It's an after-school social activity where they learn a little bit. This got me interested in going to tournaments myself and in improving my game. Chess competes with my many other interests
