Ex swimmer, I remember competing in Budapest and my parents while there bought me a lovely hand crafted wooden chess set. I played sparingly and for fun when younger, knowing only how the pieces move etc. In the last month I've become a little more addicted and looking to explore the game a bit to improve my play, no ambition to be the next Carlson but wouldn't mind beating him in a fluke game :P
