I started playing competitively when I was in high school. During my senior year (1995), our school team won the Santa Clara County championship and the CalChess state championship and then flew to Chicago where we placed 7th at nationals. I believe we were the best public, non-magnet high school in the country that year. It was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. After having children, I've devoted a lot more time to teaching chess to kids than to playing games myself.
