  1. Leverkuhn oh fun, a Rauzer
  2. Leverkuhn Black seems to be more booked up
  3. Leverkuhn hmmm
  4. Leverkuhn isn't 12...h5 reasonable here?
  5. Leverkuhn 12...h5 13.gxh5 Rxh5 14.Be2 Rc5!?
  6. Leverkuhn I'm not sure about playing ...b4 so early. To my limited knowledge, White often wants to play f5 and Nc3-e2-f4 anyway to put pressure on e6
  7. Leverkuhn Is White considering 14.e5?
  8. Leverkuhn We see a possible drawback of g4 here, namely that Bh3 to pressure e6 and induce an ...e5 weakness isn't avaiable
  9. Leverkuhn whoa
  10. Leverkuhn Black argues that White can't get a knight to d5 easily
  11. Leverkuhn true, but I still don't like giving White something to play for like this
  12. Leverkuhn but he doubtless knows the opening better
  13. Leverkuhn I was starting to like White's position after 15.Ng3, but instead we see another structure-altering decision
  14. Leverkuhn it's a clever idea: 15...fxg5 16.f6!
  15. Leverkuhn but does Black lose after 15...fxg5 16.f6 Bxf6 17.Qxd6 Qd8?
  16. Leverkuhn Black can also consider starting some craziness with 15...Qf2!?
  17. birdpersson (15...fxg5) just checking in we have a rauzer
  18. Leverkuhn indeed
  19. Leverkuhn you're a Sicilian master birdpersson, what do you think about this 14...e5 unprovoked
  20. Leverkuhn I didn't like it
  21. Leverkuhn Also I expected 16.f6!? there, White didn't go for that
  22. birdpersson (16...h6) lol that's quite generous but I've actually seen some structure like this last week I think where black is doing fine
  23. birdpersson (17.Nf3) I've started looking at the classical sicilian quite a few times but the rauzer always hurt my brain so I'm sticking to my e6 lines
  24. Leverkuhn 17...Qf2 is serisouly annoying here
  25. Leverkuhn White would almost have to play 18.Qd3, but then 18...Na5 menaces ...Bb5
  26. Leverkuhn but again 18.f6 has to be calulated
  27. Leverkuhn definitely the simple option here is the typical 17...Na5
  28. Leverkuhn oh wait 18.Nxe5!
  29. Leverkuhn have to be very careful
  30. Leverkuhn ahh but 18.Nxe5 doesn't work: 18...Bg5!
  31. Leverkuhn we can see why this opening induces birdpersson headaches
  32. birdpersson (17.Nf3) I just check with the shankland repertorie a bit
  33. birdpersson (17.Nf3) white's 12.g4 was slow as it allowed b4 and closing the position with e4 without the knight having the d5 square
  34. birdpersson (17...Na5) so black basically played perfectly for the first 15 moves here which is well bravo
  35. birdpersson (17...Na5) I'm not sure how good black's reaction was to g5 though
  36. birdpersson (17...Na5) I would assume black is better but I can't wrap my head around these positions at all
  37. Leverkuhn good stuff, thanks for the report!
  38. birdpersson (17...Na5) this is why I love the e6 sicilians as you can play a structure basically and the tactics just flow through that
  39. Leverkuhn ?
  40. birdpersson (18.Nxe5) the d6 ones it's just a dynamic mess which are just way over my head
  41. Leverkuhn 18...Bg5 19.Nf4 Bxf4 20.Qxf4 dxe5 because there's no pin anymore
  42. Leverkuhn also 19...dxe5 might win as well there as 20.Qxd7+ seems to be just a check, after which f4 drops with check
  43. birdpersson (18.Nxe5) wait does Bg5 here?
  44. Leverkuhn I think so
  45. Leverkuhn battlecrew had to be prepared for this when he played 17...Na5
  46. birdpersson (18.Nxe5) ok I was thinking this was a nice shot by white as it shows why f6 should have been played instead of h6
  47. Leverkuhn you can see me going through the process of discovery upthread
  48. birdpersson (18.Nxe5) then I stopped panicking and saw Bg5 lol
  49. birdpersson (18...Bg5) yah same thing and just slower for me xd
  50. birdpersson (19.Nf4) https://youtu.be/P7ig6AFXB00?si=C2lIRt-R53qJfj5H
  51. Leverkuhn now I guess it's just 19...dxe5 that works
  52. birdpersson (19...dxe5) the game reminds me of this video - the concept rather then the moves themselves
  53. birdpersson 18.Nxe5 reminded me of the call the ambulance quote at the 5 minute mark xd
  54. birdpersson kind of fitting considering it's the rauzer - a worthy watch from IM Andras if you want to start out with the sicilian imo
  55. Leverkuhn can Black finish with 21...Rd8 22.Qxe5 Qe3+ here?
  56. Leverkuhn yep
  57. Leverkuhn what a strong game from battlecrew
  58. thebattlecrw I was confused
  59. thebattlecrw I looked at 18. Ne5 briefly and thought that couldn't work cuz of 18... Bg5 so I was a little shocked
  60. thebattlecrw That's the sort of move that rattles a person when it lands on the board
  61. thebattlecrw so I spent a long time trying to figure out why I was wrong haha
  62. birdpersson good on you for not panicking
  63. PaulWithAnS Yep. Big oversight. Bg5 was also on my radar but I somehow neglected it after Ne5. I guess that's why you should always play Kb1 :/
  64. thebattlecrw Yeah exactly
  65. birdpersson a note on the opening apparently e5 was the only mistake so I guess that's what you're supposed to play but only with out g4 inserted
  66. birdpersson really impressed by the opening from black this game
  67. thebattlecrw Thank you
