Chessalyz September Update: Matty Answers Back
We were busy during September with a ton of updates over at Chessalyz.ai. Here’s what we’ve been working hard on:
Not convinced? Follow up.
Matty's coaching is now a conversation: ask "but why?" on any critical moment and he answers about your position. Plus Guess the Move with 21,000+ master games, share links anyone can open without an account, and a new Blunder Prevention Trainer.
Everything we shipped since the Summer Update, Aug 12 to Oct 2, 2026

#1: Interactive follow-ups: ask Matty why 💬
Until now, Matty’s coaching on a critical moment was the last word. Now you can answer back. Push on his suggestion, ask about the plan you had in mind, or ask why his move is better, and he replies about the exact position in front of you.

- Grounded in your game. Answers point at real moves on your board, and every move Matty mentions is a chip you can hover to preview.
- It’s the one part of Chessalyz where you write, and that’s the point. Putting your reasoning into words is what makes the lesson stick.
- Tell us when he’s wrong. Every answer has thumbs up and down, and a thumbs-down lets you say what was off. It comes straight to us.
Included with Gold. To introduce it, Basic and Silver accounts get a limited number of follow-ups too, so everyone can try it. See plans
#2: Guess the Move 🎲
Sit in the winner’s chair of a real master game and guess every move before it’s played. It’s one of the oldest training methods in chess, and now it scores you.

- 21,000+ games, with millions on the way. Modern Masters from the last ten years, Earlier Masters, and hand-picked packs like Lessons from Defeat (six games Capablanca lost, annotated by Capablanca) and Immortal Classics.
- Scored like a coach would. The master’s move scores most, but a different good move still earns points. You see both moves on the board, each with an engine eval.
- The annotator speaks. In annotated games, the original notes appear on the move.
- Find your game. Search by opening, player or theme. Unfinished games pick up where you left off, and every game you’ve played can be reviewed.

#3: Share a link 🔗
Send any game, flashcard or Trainer position to anyone. They tap the link and they’re on the board. No account, no sign-in, no app.

- You choose what it shows. Moves and players always. Chessalyz analysis, your answers and Matty’s coaching, your notes, and the game summary are each your call.
- Shared puzzles are playable. Your friend solves it right there, sees how their time compares to yours, and can save it to their own Chessalyz.
- Revoke any time. The link stops working the moment you do.
#4: The Blunder Prevention Trainer 🛡️
Most club games aren’t lost to brilliant combinations. They’re lost to one natural-looking move that hangs something. This trainer puts you one move before the mistake: two candidate moves, only one is safe.

- Its own rating, like every Skills Trainer, so you can watch your blunder-proofing improve.
- Train one pattern at a time: responding to check, safe captures, anti-fork, anti-pin, back-rank mates and more.
- Filter by tags now works on every Skills Trainer, not only this one.
#5: Your thoughts, before and after the game 📓
The fastest way to learn from a game is to say what you thought before the engine tells you. Chessalyz now asks for your take before the analysis and your own summary after it, and keeps both in your new Journal.

Then Matty adds his side: a Game Summary for every analyzed game, with a headline verdict, your accuracy against your opponent's by phase, where the game left your opening prep, and one thing to train next.

#6: Opening Practice: drill the repertoire you built 📖
The board plays the lead-in, stops on your turn, and you play the move you prepared. Lines you know come back less often, lines you fumble come back sooner.

- Three tries, then help. Play outside your prep and Matty tells you your line goes elsewhere. Stuck? Show the square or skip the line.
- Star the lines that matter. Starred lines get their own list on My Progress, ready to practice.
#7: Your Week in Chess 📬
A short weekly email from Matty: games played, how your rating moved, your practice streak, and one position from your own games to try again.
#8: Coming soon 🔮

Try it 👇
Open any analyzed game, go to a critical moment, and when Matty answers, push back. Then head to Trainers → Play It Out → Guess the Move and see how many of Morphy's moves you can find.
Ask Matty something he couldn't answer? Tell us on Discord. 💬
Happy training!
