World Rapid and Blitz being absolute meme

Carlsen had the last draw (of cards), avoiding the show of hands to FIDE!
At first I was mad about FIDE letting them share, then I realised that because of history and incidents they would both happily draw another x until FIDE would start to look inhumane. Yes FIDE is useless but so far Magnus thing seems invitation only, [although he has been surpassed in classical ability] I agree with him 960 and rapid make more sense with the WC more of a heritage thing.
Magnus entered the tournament as a participant and left as a tournament director.
I guess FIDE got cornered. The jeans scandal was ridiculous in front of the majority, including big sponsors. So FIDE had to loosen it's rules without due procedure, it was a "temporary" measure. I think that put FIDE in a tight position where Magnus had all the leverage: if there was something he didn't like, he could just simply leave and screw with FIDE. Also as @themiddleway suggests, Magnus and Nepo could've just highlighted how bad the rules are by drawing on purpose for an indefinite amount of time. I guess this possibility forced FIDE to agree with Magnus' terms, instead of allowing Magnus and Nepo to humiliate FIDE in front of everyone and playing intentional draws in protest.

In 1983 in the quarterfinal world championship candidates match the winner was decided by a roulette game due to repeated draws. I suppose what happened this time was a better outcome than relying on a wheel of luck.

Of course both of them worked hard for the title and they played very well but the problem really is with the Magnus exception. Lei Tingjie drew a lot with Ju Wenjun, they could've shared as well.

EDIT: I listened to Fabi's opinion about this and he's not blaming the players so much. I guess he's right: players just want to win, if it means a shared place then why not take it. I guess it's on FIDE to make sound rules and a system where a clear winner has to emerge. Since there was no such rule, like Armageddon, the players had the opportunity to bargain. Add to it the fact that one of the players is Magnus, with a lot of leverage and here's the mess we're in. :D

Agreed. But I also believe that other kinds of resolution, whether an "armageddon" or one of the players making a random decisive mistake in 10th (or 20th or whatever) game of the tie-break would be just as bad as tossing a coin or using a roulette.
Just a fun thought exercise...
- Do you like monopolies? Do you like it when a company takes over a whole market and sucks up all possible income, consumers and titles for itself? Well, that's exactly what Magnus is doing, chess.com is doing the same thing, but at least they are not actively trying to kill lichess.org the way Magnus is trying to do the same thing to FIDE, I mean, come on...

Back then (1970~1980) nobody dared to speak out and confront FIDE, Kasparov stood for something important at that time. Maybe Magnus is trying to do the same? Literally 1984, because players can't wear jeans! Or maybe he's just trying to make more money.

What else can I say? Of course, Carlsen also owns TAKE TAKE TAKE, an app that is free for now and pretty mediocre, but it will improve over time. What is very interesting is that they have partnered with Chess.com, so maybe in the next few years, if FIDE does nothing... they will simply be forced to file for bankruptcy, because FIDE has lost it's prestige (2023 and 2024 WCC) and if you look at the number of views on FIDE's official WCC 24 transmission and on Chess.com or Lichess.org or GMHikaru or ChessBaseIndia or Gotham Chess or, FIDE literally had less views... Numbers speaks for itself.
fide and chess got so much more publicity because of the jeans and the shared championship thing. i think overall it helped the scene (both the players, and fide)

magnus isnt trying to actively kill fide. he participated in some of their biggest tournaments. sure he probably considers them rivals but i think he still doesnt want to end fide bcuz if he did, there are more drastic thing he can do.
