The Budapest gambit is usually played when White plays 1.d4. By playing 1.d4 White usually hopes for a quiet game where he can develop and get castled without getting mated or having to face a lot of opening tactics. The Budapest Gambit however, will keep White on his toes and produces very dangerous lines if White is not careful.
