I reached 2000 ELO for about 30 years ago. I don't play over-the-board tournaments anymore but I still play a lot here in Lichess just for fun. My favorite is 5+3 blitz. I am a bit slow, so my bullet rating is much lower (about 1500) than blitz, rapid and classical. In a bullet game I typically lose on time in a won position. Well, as David Bronstein once said to me when analyzing our game, the clock is a part of the game (that game wasn't a bullet, though, but a real OTB 2 hours for 40 moves etc.)...
Anyway, I have no competitive ambitions anymore, but I think I have something to give to younger players who would like to reach 2000 ELO. And I think my advice would be a little different than most other coaches'. I put the emphazis on positional understanding and endgame. I think the study of opening lines (as usually conducted) is a waste of time for a player with an ELO under 2000. Even so, I do have some favorite opening lines and most of them are somewhat unorthodox but have a positional reason.
I also think it's very useful to know how to defend against opponent's attack. This ability gives the possibility to go for a potential endgame advantage (pawn structure) right in the opening at the cost of a passive position in the middle game. Of course I would lose against IM's and GM's with this approach but after thousands of games my rating is still about 2000 so it seems good enough if 2000 ELO is your goal.
