Competence Development for Lichess contributors

Last Modified: Saturday 15th January 2022.

Lichess would like to support its contributors in their competence development by covering costs of relevant training materials and activities. This is a small way to further empower contributors who have given their time to Lichess and to enable or improve additional contributions to Lichess in the future.

This program is not limited to developers and code contributions, but is applicable to anyone who has spent time and effort to improve Lichess in some way.

How can I take advantage of this program?

Apply using this Google Form. You can expect a reply to your request within 3 business days. If your request is approved, you can send us the invoice for the specified training materials or activities, and we will reimburse you for those costs via bank transfer. The invoice can include your name and address, but "lichess.org" must clearly be mentioned as the recipient or benefactor in some way.

Who is eligible?

Any person who has contributed their time and effort to Lichess in some way. It is not a requirement to be a Lichess admin, moderator or developer.

Is my request likely to be approved?

Requests that seem more relevant and useful for enabling or improving future contributions to Lichess are more likely to be approved. Requests from longer-term contributors are more likely to be approved than requests from people with a very limited or no history with Lichess. Requests for smaller amounts are more likely to be approved than requests for larger amounts.

What's the budget for this?

€500 has been allocated for a limited trial period in which we hope to fulfill several requests. If the program is successful, we expect to dedicate a fixed budget for the program.

What kind of training material and activities are within the scope of this program?

Anything that achieves the stated purpose is within the scope. Examples include books, videos and courses. Previously approved requests include:
