How to prevent d5 in Sicilian Najdorf?

Common sense and every chess site says as white you should prevent black from playing d5 - but how can you actually do that? You can put rooks and queens on the d-file, but that doesn't really prevent black from doing that?
One easy way in many variations is just to put your own piece on d5. In many Maroczy Bind positions or variations of the Najdorf, this is a standard theme.
If you put a piece on d5 or install control... So what? Black plays on the c-file, minority attack a6-b5, play in the center with f5.

Just playing around d5.

Rule of thumb: the c-file counts more for Black than the d-file for White.
