I've seen a couple questions related to those upvote/downvote buttons, but I haven't found an answer that comprehensively explains how my vote is used to change/improve things?
Should I use the vote as a like/dislike? Or should I use it as a "this puzzle is appropriate/inappropriate for my level"? Or maybe it's as simple as "this puzzle is good/broken".
I think it is like/dislike. Appropriate/inappropriate for your level depends on whether or not you solved the puzzle successfully.
Do not use it as a "this puzzle is appropriate/inappropriate for my level". The rating is calculated with thousands of players solving them, so it's always a just rating.
Good question! This is something I've wondered about also. Just posting so I can easily find the thread again.
Maybe the vote results (and in my opinion also the puzzle rating) could be shown when doing the puzzle, so you would be able to more easily decide how much time and effort to spend on the puzzle.
