In England, it is perfectly normal for people

... to drink warm beer. In other parts of the world if someones behaviour is crazy you tell everbody "Oh, (s)he is from England, so better you asks no question!s" everybody understands and not a single word more is needed to explain something - how weird the circumsctances ever might be.... ;-)

this new feature that reporting a player automatically adds them to your block list was introduced on the site quite recently
Yet another quiet sneaky action. Shadowban, deactivated topics, see no evil hear no evil... Lichess loves that stuff.

I've reported people before and had those reports gotten buried. Lots of people report things, and Lichess can only deal with so many at one time, especially with virtually all their staff working as volunteers. If you want action taken and it's already been a week or so, you can try reporting again.

In my opinion there's no need to pile on the pressure against Simon who is someone who clearly does understand that reports can't always be acted on immediately. The confusion was clear and I've experienced that confusion myself. I reported a forum posting a few months ago and was astonished to see the posting immediately hidden from me. My thought was "that was quick!" Then a bit more digging revealed that actually the forum poster had merely been added to my block list. Like Simon, I could easily have thought that this addition to my block list was the result of an action by a human moderator, thought "that's not what I wanted!", and resented the intrusion into my own account.
