Yes it will. I think it could be because of one of those:

Global warming / climate instability / rising sea levels (my estimated timeframe: 30 - 200 years)
Nuclear war (timeframe: 3 - 30 years)
Man-made virus developed as a biological weapon that escapes a lab and turns out much worse than expected/mutates wildly beyond hope of creating an anti-virus (timeframe: 5 - 15 years)
AI getting out of control and killing everyone (timeframe: 5 - 20 years)
Astronomical event (like in Don't Look Up) (timeframe: anytime)
Sun running out of fuel, expanding to engulf the Earth (timeframe: a few billion years)
