I am grateful to the lichess admins that allowed me to join the platform back in 2017 when it launched. I think I might have been one of the first couple of coaches to join and might have helped the platform gain steam that year, but I can't be sure. I think they allowed it because I asked.. and I had written an educational book that you can download for free here: homeroomchess.org. I've been in the chess education scene for a very long time now.

@Cheesychessy06 you don’t have to be titled to be a coach, all you need is someone willing to pay money for you to teach him.

@Vertonghen You do need a title to be listed in lichess coach list. Unlikely to be that sort of rule existed when coach list was introduced. But you are coaching is by no means limitted to titled players. No need to be amaster to teach elementary school kids chess basics.

As someone whos has taught Technical Scuba diving (beyond 60m deep) and Instrument/Helicopter pilots as well as statistical lean six sigma master black belts. Being an expert on something does not give you the ability to teach. Just because someone can do 5th grade math does not mean they can effectively teach a class of 5th graders concepts and math in a timely and retainable fashion.
Understanding teaching concepts and learning methods, student evaluations, the difference between rote, understanding and correlation are just some of the example that are probably more important then being a grandmaster in the subject....
Let alone the variables with becoming a Titled FIDE player outside of large cities in US....Because if you think that instantly makes you a better coach then I think you should re-evaluate what you think a good coach provides.
Being a titled player does not mean you're a capable of being a coach, not being a titled player does not mean you're incapable of being a good coach.

I think everyone must be able to be a coach. A coach does not have to be titled. He just needs to know how to teach, be supportive and give his all to his students. @DrHack I hope all is well.
be able to coach and be able to be listed on some third party are two different things. And some limitations are needed with site as big attendance as lichess. Obviously woud be wrong to unlist someone who got be list earlier stage
