There Are No Good Anti-Scandinavians

#10
"After 2.exd5 it's difficult to avoid the typical scandinavian positions" * But why avoid those positions?

"if White doesn't like them" * What reason is there to dislike those positions as white? Why choose inferior alternatives?

I used to dislike them because you can't really attack (unless you learn the lines) and the plans aren't simple for White

And preparing against Scandinavian isn't simple just because how many different moves Black can play (Qa5/Qd6/Qd8, Bf5/Bg4/e6/c6/Nc6/g6) and the opening isn't strategically unsound, to get the .6 advantage you have to follow the engine lines which result in positions you can still feel uncomfortable in.

I've been trying to test some lines out against the Qa5 and Qd6 scandi but it's so difficult because it's rare to get them, and everyone plays them differently. So choosing a move 2 alternative doesn't sound that bad

Very good article. I admit I don’t know any theory about the Center Counter, so I usually play 2.d3 or 2.Nc3. My experience has been that most people answer 2.d3 by trading queens and that usually leads to a knight ending.

most at my level dont know how to play the scandinavian as black. i always advnace the pawn to e5 and play from there. or i just sacrifice all my pieces, draw blacks king out, and checkmate. but im 1300 so idk.

I experimented with playing the Blackmar Diemer Gambit against Scandinavian players for awhile, but in the end, I decided that 2. exd5 is better, and Scandinavian players are usually so bad at the game that I don't need to prepare against them anyways.

Quite simply, I don't ever want to see the BDG on my board (same with the Smith-Morra), so I play 2.e5. It's a huge hole in my game that I'm perfectly ok with - I'm not good enough for it to matter anyway. XD

Play what you enjoy playing; it's just a game.

e4 d5 Bd3

I don't get what's the point of that move. Natural continuation can be 2... dxe4 3... Nf6, or since White isn't doing anything threatning 2... e5 and 2... Nc6, like against 2.d3 seem like good options. Maybe ecen 2... dxe4 3...f5 4... e5

Scandinavians are the key to the kingdom of the Law. Thank you so much!
