Is Chess a Sport?

what is a sport? I would say probably not... But that is just nature of what most would use the word "sport" for--- vs chess are completely different.
Most people say no. Because chess has no physical activity. But what physical activity is in golf? Not much.

Chess requires skill, strategies, practice, and tactics. Sometimes dirty tactics.

You also have to be mentally able.

@ErikSkov as for what is a sport:

What do you do in sport?

You play the game.

Therefore anything you play can be a sport.

But it depends on the context of the situation

What is a sport?

What is a game?

Sport is a game?

A game is a thing you play.

But is a sport just anything you can play?

Does that mean music is a sport?

I don't disagree with you! A wise man once said that if you can compete it is sport! But then war could also be considered as sport. To me chess is sport cause it requires brain activity and also good physical condition.
Cheers from Denmark.
"[...] also good physical condition." Have you seen GM Ben Finegold before? :-P
"To me chess is sport cause it requires brain activity and also good physical condition" then, are sumo wrestlers in good physical condition, is sumo wrestling a 'sport'?

Chess is a sport when you compete for fun, war is not a sport since it's for pride and other reasons beyond the scope of this conversation.

Competitive sports are those where there's a prize involved, say Olympics, Fifa wolrd cup, the american baseball "world series" (that doesn't include teams from anywhere else in the world...). and many more.

"War is not sport since it is for pride and other reasons....."
Chess is not war on the board? (Big smile).
You see, I don't disagree with you at all, that's why I would like a definition of what is sport everyone can agree on. I just think it will be slightly difficult to say at least!
