Highest level free chess engine?

Hi

Does anyone know where I can play the highest level chess engine for free? I know lichess has Stockfish that goes up to level 8. Is there anywhere else on the internet that does higher levels of stock fish for free or do I need to pay.

Think it’s quite good to play the engine and learn from their moves.

Hey friend! I'm glad you want to improve. Stockfish (or SF, same thing) on Lichess is plenty strong as it will destroy even the best chess players in the world.

The general consensus is that Stockfish is the most powerful chess engine. If you want a beefier version of it, just download it for free with a simple google search. You'll also need an interface (like a program with a board), called a GUI, there are lots out there you can download. I believe they all have functionalities for you to play against the engine.

All this said --- most folks would agree that playing against the engine isn't the best way to improve. They calculate a million moves ahead and mate you and you have no clue where you went wrong. The best ways to improve are studying and playing.

Might I recommend John Bartholomew's Chess Fundamentals series on Youtube to get started.
