The War on Attention

@dboing said in #30:

music by composers is first improvised in their minds, and that is all we get to see, not all the other improvisations that were lost to time.

with advent of recording we have bypassed the skid mark remains obligation. we have more direct access to the fleeting creativity.. it is humans being machines that are trying to funnel the human creativity, because in fact we might be expandably too many for their purpose. only good as consumers many consumers few creations fed? That is a question, not a certitude, and it might only be a dimension of the problem you speak of. Elevator music dimension. But there might be, now given the many of us a return to the waste of human creativity for all those that are buried under that dimension of cultural dynamics (the few and the many thing).

pyramids abstractions made realities onto whole population is not a good thing for the whole population.. is that not obvious?

There use to be TV network sparsity... and there is nostalia for that, but at the mind scape level now, as a layer on top of web1.0. web 2.0 is accelerating that, and we can thank artificial mindscape herding algorithms.

did I derail? where is attention in all of this? That is the ressource that is being mined.. and funnelled. with the word "information" attached. Not truth or reasoning (although that word is also being dragged in the hype-mud).

If you speak more clear, then I can give an answer. What you just wrote isn't understandable at all.

Yes that is often the case.. I am improvising, and as such it might need iterations, but that takes some day night cycles to evolve into readable.. I understand your point of view. You might try AI, if I have just syntax ordering or omitted some complete form and jumped from idea to idea. It is possible that some missng crucial conjonction (article?) might also make an AI miss the point... They don't understand logic as their training is not having it as part of the domain definition of the target world.. I guess that might also need some AI grinding. See too early.. more improvisation.. I will try again in a few days... or I might just add more ramblings.

I write in english only in appearances....

Sure. Just take as much time as you want.

One of the best things I've learned from the book "Atomic Habits" is that you can make something called "compromised decisions" or sm like that. They are decisions that you make once but they make a long lasting impact.

I made the decision to limit my time of the social media I use (youtube and instagram) to 15 min each, each day and even timed chrome in my phone to 15 min because I used to log in into instagram through that also.

Not only did that but also used an extension on my PC called "Untrap for youtube" where you can hide all recomendations on the front page and hide youtube shorts so the page looks completely empty and all you can see is what you search for.

This helped me to engage more with chess, reading and other activities that I wanted to do. And it gave me my ambition back.

Great blog, but just FYI the Anxious Generation has been heavily criticized as unscientific pop-sociology where author manipulated a lot of data with hand waving logic to reach his conclusions. The If Books Could Kill Podcast did a great deconstruction of this book.
