Yes indeed! Maybe we will run one one day.

In the meantime, we will be running a zh960 side event on Pychess during the upcoming CWC, so you are welcome to join that.

If there is enough interest, I’d definitely be in favour of organising one. Perhaps in 2 or 3 years, we could make a first attempt at a major event. Let’s see.

Also, I’d like to encourage everyone to post any questions you have about the CWC 2025 format, or if you need clarification on any part of the event, feel free to ask under this post.

Thank you all for your support! Less than 48 hours to go until the official start — let’s have some fun!

First of all thank you for organizing.

My opinion is that 32 players are too few for a good double elimination style of tournament.
Have you considered, and if yes why didn't you choose it, a tournament of at least 64 players?

How to i will participate this game

Your account needs to be at least 2 months old and you need to have at least 50 rated crazyhouse games to take part in this tournament.

While it would be great to have “at least 64” or more in the Double K.O. stage, unfortunately, it comes with a trade-off: the cost of time for both players and organizers increases — which is the main issue. In recent years, the activity at the top levels in the zh scene has unfortunately been consistently decreasing. We hoped to find a balance in tournament duration that could help reverse this trend — making it appealing for top players in terms of time commitment, while also welcoming everyone to participate by offering plenty of chances through 8 Qualifier Arenas.

There have already been a few top players who reached out to me after the announcement, saying that having 8 players instead of 13 in the Candidates makes them more likely to participate due to the shorter overall length. Also, from my own experience in the first and last CWC I played in (2022), there were two withdrawals by my opponents from the tournament after long waiting periods. Examples like these can be extended, and in practice, the likelihood of early withdrawals tends to increase as the number of participants grows.

If you have any concrete suggestions regarding format design, with detailed reasoning that aims to find a balance considering the metrics mentioned above, I'd be glad to hear them. We appreciate different perspectives and improvement suggestions, which may influence future editions.

Thanks for your feedback.

May one player participate in several Arenas, not only one?
