Bring back full variants, asymmetric clocks, and offline Stockfish on mobile

  • Full variant list missing: Mobile app only shows Standard and Chess960. Please bring back Crazyhouse, Antichess, Atomic, King of the Hill, Three‐check, Horde, Racing Kings, etc., in the “Create Game” menu.
  • Asymmetric clocks removed: Offline clock no longer allows different times for White and Black. This was useful for training and handicap games.
  • Offline Stockfish: Some versions no longer allow playing against the engine without internet. Offline play was a key feature for travel or poor connectivity.

These features existed in earlier versions and were part of what made the mobile app complete. Restoring them would improve parity with the web version and benefit variant players, coaches, and offline users.

Thanks for considering.

Yeah, it's weird it got out of beta so incomplete, I don't understand why the base features that made the mobile app worthwhile compared to just using the web version weren't added before release.

The app is out of Beta? Was there an announcement?

It was officially released at some point, I don't remember when. There's a blog post from lichess about it from back when it happened, but it's probably relatively old by now, although it should be pretty easy to find if you just go to the lichess tab on the blog page. In terms of features it might as well still be the beta version imo, it's nowhere near as good as the old one was for mobile devices (in my opinion, but there are people who prefer it over the old one. I'm just very vehemently not one of them)

I think the idea is that while it may not be as good as the old one was, it is better than the old one is now. The old one is so out-of-date and crufty that it is unreliable. At least, that is the impression I get.

The only thing making the old one worse than the new one is the fact it's discontinued. Other than that, I don't see what's wrong with it. There are maybe a very small handful of new useful features, but everything else is either missing or not improved.
