Why do you think this has an unfair sportsmanship?
Any person can resign when they want to, but better if the continue the game. Yeah you should think your oppenent is good, but play for a win.

You have to understand if you are bad, your win does not indicate any kind of success on your part. So it shouldn't make you feel good. Thus the win has no deserved meaning, so you might as well resign is justified.
