We've looked at atomic from other start positions a bit, specifically the chess960 start positions. At least a dozen of them were forced wins for white, none were forced wins for black.
Is that relevant to your question?
yes, absolutely.
I was hoping to get to know about possible enhancements or equally valid ones. ( and be it for different constellations for a change )
So, there is some with no forced wins at all. ( or didn't you look at any other than those? )
Maybe there's one, that gives less forced first moves, a broader opening moves' variants' tree.
I mean factually, with forced moves ( 1. Nf3 f6. 1. e4 e6. 1. e3 e6 ), these are actually the current starting positions.
I also find "ugly" or "unclean" all those variants that require forced or best or winning moves bNh6, bNa6, wNh3, wNa3 - it just doesn't look & feel "round" in itself...
How about simply having bKd8, bQe8?
I looked up the paper that I was remembering, and it turned out to be for antichess from the chess960 positions. Someone should try it for atomic, and see how many are forced white wins vs how many are more nearly even than the standard starting position.
ah, ok, thx 4 update
looks like there's been tourneys of the kind ...
