Voting for Wanted Features

Lichess provides a free community service.
Members demanding to vote on what services are to be provided ?
Sounds like a bad joke.

Make suggestions, give feedback.
You all demanding to "vote" need to familiarize yourselves with the context of the term "vote."
To exercise a vote has certain implications.
Call it "Express your opinion by selecting a given box".
Do not call it "voting."
Correct.
Are not suggestions already being made? Feedback is seen by staff. Do you think they need assistance to make a tally?
Want to provide a box to express an opinion, sure, but it seems redundant. Suggestions are being heard. It only seems redundant to tally up the results of a poll (which by it's very nature presents problems). The result, a majority or not, often is not the key factor in whether or not a suggestion is implemented.
I will try a final time to define the difference.
The whole point of having a "vote" is that every vote counts. People invest the time and research into making their opinion known. It is expected that their vote matters, that the outcome will be implemented or rejected. A democratic perspective that the majority rules. This works just fine in electing representatives or passing laws.
It does not work for expressing which "new features" should be added to a free community service by members who voluntarily sign up. (Are they forming a union, making demands of how the site is to be run?) Calling for "votes" on future features, or to eliminate existing ones will never fly.

Make suggestions. Staff and developers listen. But don't create polls where voting results is an attempt to influence policy. If results are wanted, both perspectives need taking into account, that of management and that of the members.
Mr. mdinnerspace, no one is demanding anything. The Lichess folks have done, and continue to do a fantastic job. We're discussing things that some of us think may be interesting, or helpful, or just plain fun to try. No need for you to blow your stack.
This is not a demand to rule Lichess policy. The ranking of suggestions by popularity would only be a way for developers to know which features are more needed than others. For example, one of the arguments against the add of Swiss tournaments was its lack of popularity. Well, this issue would be solved with a "feature wishlist".
Of course, devs have the last word and add suggested features if they want to and at their speed.
Great! Create a "feature wish list".
Just don't call it "voting".
Seems you are immune to my point: Using the term "Vote" has an implied meaning to many people, maybe not to you, but for many including myself, when I vote on something, my vote counts, there is a tally when the polls close. People will expect their wishes be observed, otherwise, WHY VOTE ?
There simply is a better way to go about it than calling for a vote if you want results, that is to make the public's wishes known.

"Of course, devs have the last word and add suggested features if they want to and at their speed."

You will have to include this disclaimer with every "vote" taken.

Simply avoid all the possible misunderstandings that might occur. Say something as simple as "check a box if you'd like to see this feature added to lichess" and make no mention of voting.

Well, this thread has few visibility : compared to other threads with the same number of comments, it has much less views. Also, its posts do not appear in Last Forum Posts. Should I create another thread ?
