I am a 2350 rapid player but still not 2100 in fide just 1800
this seems just wrong on many levels
My lichess rating is 2040 but my fide is 1523 :O
There's a lot of talented whiz kids on Lichess who can't see the conversion. They played 1000s of games on Lichess during Covid times, shot up to 2000 - 2400 Lichess. It will take many years for their FIDE / home country chess ratings to catch up to where it should be. And then taking into account the sheer time it takes to increase an OTB score.
I don't know about other countries, but the ECF - chess.com - Lichess conversion looks spot on for the mid level player.
@NoseKnowsAll Great research, well done!
Thanks for the effort... but in the absence of a thorough meta-analysis of the ACPL of a large number of games from both OTB and online, determining the actual avg. difference from top moves, I'm unconvinced of the real apples-to-apples comparison scale.
i.e., your system remains relative rather than absolute regardless of how many player ratings you compare, because you're not looking at the average move strength of OTB vs. Online per rating bracket, which is much more revealing as a benchmark.
(Also people who say ACPL from a large sample set isn't a good benchmark for player skill are very foolish; there is a linear trend of decreasing ACPL from 2-3k rating.)
My suspicion is that OTB ratings are deflated across the board not merely by higher player strength, but likely the fact that increasing OTB rating is a tedious affair and thus certain player breakpoints are possibly underrated by quite a high margin.
Did you compensate for 'active' players and decay? This could thoroughly skew the result as well if not
"You should be stronger than a decent amount of online players before it makes any sense to even try for an OTB rating." ( Quoting article)
That sounds bad for two reasons.
Unrated "experienced" players already take down ratings, that's what that fide boost was trying to compensate for
And, maybe actually important, you improve faster OTB, because you play harder opponents.
Or maybe you get more experience because OTB is a different experience and you play online anyway.
I just don't see any benefits of waiting.
Ok good
Es interesante saber mi Elo fide
Its pretty funny im around 1800 clssical on lichess, and 1800 on chess.com, but my fide is 1400. im just bad ig
