opponent had no material to checkmate still I lost

i think it is because you may have chance to checkmate your opponent by promoting the pawns, but you lost on time.. so you lost on time
Well, you lost on time. And mate is possible if the moves were chosen randomly very often.

Play with increment then you can spare you the time to discuss.

PS: it's the official world-wide valid rule, only some amateur servers and the USCF make their own business.
There are chess endgames where you can checkmate with a king and a bishop vs. a king and 2 pawns.
First position is like Infinite monkey theorem.

"And mate is possible if the moves were chosen randomly very often."
Yeah, someone mentioned the monkeys in conjunction with that topic. :D :D :D

The same guy collected some real unfortunate 1-minor-piece mates out of the Megabase played by humans...
There is no "insufficient material" rule on Lichess; there is only a rule about whether mate can be constructed. Were there an insufficient material rule, one should also argue that White can't win the final position against a reasonable opponent (had Black timed out).
Are you saying that if I have mate in a few moves with K+R against K+B (nothing else on the board) if my time runs down I lose?????? That's lame.
No, K+B vs. K+R cannot mate. In that case it would be a draw.
