Don't get overconfident

lichess.org/6woQiHp2/
I was playing black in this game. I had a huge advantage that I gained but later threw. However, my opponent was way too overconfident and the game resulted in him not seeing a mate threat and taking my rook. How could my opponent have kept his advantage?
After 5..Nxd5 in the opening white already missed the win with 6.Nxf7(fried liver attack). After 6..Kxc7 7.Qf3+,Ke6
8.Nc3, Ncb4 your position would be messed up. Lol
Why does black play 24. g6?? among a ton of other questionable moves
I mean 21...g6. Seems to be weakening his king unnecessarily
