Some stories really did happen... but feel like they belong in a book.
A few years ago, some friends and I decided — almost on a whim — to hike up a long, steep trail we had never explored before. The path was rough, full of stones and roots, and the incline felt endless. We laughed, we struggled, and more than once we asked, “Are we seriously still climbing?”
But we didn’t stop. And when we finally reached the top, something magical was waiting for us: a crystal-clear waterfall, hidden among the trees, cascading down the rocks like it had been guarding that place for centuries.
There was no one else around. Just the sound of water, wind, and the stunned silence we all shared.
We stayed there for hours, talking about life, watching the light reflect in the water like tiny stars. It felt like stepping into a dream — the kind you don’t want to wake up from.
That’s my true story that still feels like a fairy tale.
Now it’s your turn — what’s the most unbelievable thing that’s ever happened to you... that actually happened?
Let’s collect some real-life magic.

Okay, here’s mine.
Last year, I got on a random bus after a terrible day. I had missed my usual route, didn’t check the number, just got on and sat in the back.
A few stops later, someone sits next to me... and it’s a childhood friend I hadn’t seen in almost ten years.
We both just stared at each other like, “Wait, what?”
Turns out she had just moved back to the city that same week. We talked for hours and now we’re close again.

I was hiking up Mt Wrightson ( only 9454') following someones footprints in the snow ( I mean if he can do it... ) when I round a switch back and come upon a grove of trees (larches I think) completely encased in ice down to the tips of the needles. The sun was shining obliquely through the trees, the air was completely still and the ice upon the trees shone with refraction in thousands of tiny sparkles some prismatically shimmering with rainbow colors. It was like being in a cathedral of light and quiet.

Okay, here’s one that still cracks me up.
A few months ago, I was walking downtown and saw a squirrel dragging... a slice of pizza.
Not just nibbling it, full-on hauling it across the sidewalk like it had a mission. People were staring, but the squirrel didn’t care. Total focus.
Then, no joke, a big and ugly bird swooped down and tried to steal the pizza.
The squirrel dropped it, the bird missed, and they both ended up staring at each other like it was a showdown in a western movie. I literally heard spaghetti western music in my head.
Eventually the squirrel won. Took its prize and disappeared up a tree.
Still the most epic wildlife moment I’ve seen in my neighborhood.

That squirrel story made my day.
I had a similar “urban wildlife saga” a couple of years ago.
I was eating a sandwich in the park when a pigeon flew straight at me, landed on my shoulder, and just... stared.
I froze. It didn’t peck or flap, just stared, like “You know why I’m here.”
Before I could react, another pigeon landed on the bench next to me, then another on the ground.
I swear I was surrounded in 10 seconds. It felt like I had accidentally summoned some feathery mafia.
Needless to say, I donated half my sandwich and left with my dignity mostly intact.
Moral of the story: never underestimate hungry city birds.
