Literally noone chatting?

Лариса. Вы грубы тупы и не грамотны!
On the mobile app the chat is very easy to overlook and difficult to use quickly.
Guys, don't you understand? Print it out and pin it over your bed:

If someone is playing against you online and behaves fair and doesn't bother you is probably the best you can get. Don't irritate him with chatting, takebacks, insisting on re-matches, enforcing nettiquette, changing the world for better! People take "chess" for serious and not the things around.
@ThingsFallApart You are strange. Why do you feel it is "creepy" if someone asks how old are you and where are you from?!

It is a common question.

if someone wants to find who you are they could just track your IP or do some other a little more naughty stuff.

It is silly to stop communicating with people just because one persons asked you some "creepy" questions.

It is nice to use this site to meet people and find friends. Just because someone is on the Internet it does not mean they are some crazy white man that wants to hurt you.

Unless of course you are some feminazi misandrist racist SJW person that thinks are man are bad etc.

That being said there are a lot of trolls out there who like to type gg after they win and then they cry and moan how no one wants to talk to them.
What the heck did ThingsFallApart do to deserve being labeled 'strange' and then to be accused of some sort of racial and gender stereotyping???
They made no mention of assuming the creepy person was male much less white.

It's freaky that people get so worked up about other people's preferences.

I'd have to agree that being ignored is fine by me.
Rudeness is not fine but obviously our definitions of that will vary.
When players go to a tournament, the chatting is done outside the playing room. During a game, chatting breaks the concentration and uses up time to type.
Unless it's a casual game, there really is no extra time for both players to chat. There is no need even to say check or checkmate. OTB, often a draw is simply given with a hand shack.
Could an automated ethical chat feature like: "Hello and Thank you"; really make chess players more happy?
I enjoy my little 'hello and good luck', kinda like the shake of hands in OTB
I used to chat before and after games if my opponent wanted. Now I can't for some reason. It doesn't make much difference, though, and if anything helps me to focus more on the game.
When i'm playing blitz chess 10 % of the chat messages are "hello", "gg", etc. amd 90 % trash talk and worse things. So no need to chat with them. That's not a Lichess thing, it's the same on every other server i tried.

Like my compatiot CM Sargon says, there is a time to play and a time to chat!
@BestSiteEver Being asked my age and location isn't creepy, but it crosses a line when the person continues to ask after the question has been rejected. My profile already has the information I willing to share with random acquaintances.

Age and sex questions really aren't appropriate. Would you walk up to someone in a bookstore and say, "Hey. I see you like The Expanse series. I like that too! By the way how old are you and where do you live?" That would be rather awkward*. About the only thing stranger than that is the person flipping through the pages of The Joy of Sex. Unless you're twelve and don't have access to Internet there is no reason for you to be flipping through that book in public.

*Full disclosure, as a single guy, if a woman walked up to me and said that I probably wouldn't be able to shut up - even though I haven't read any of the books in The Expanse series.
