Meh. FICS was way worse, by my recollection.
I was "taunted" (very weak trash talk, assuming most were kids) regularly on FICS. On lichess, it's like maybe once a couple months. Not even comparable. And that's with FICS already having a pretty small user base at that point. So...
And, also, no one has to interact at all with anyone on LC. You can put it on Kids mode and avoid the message boards. Presto: no toxicity in your experience.
As I see it, it's as toxic as you allow it to be.
