I've gotten to the point where I get a little offended by calls for America to "pay" for Nagasaki and Hiroshima. I understand that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were horrific (and I mean no disrespect to Japan, which has really gotten its act together in a remarkable way), but the US wasn't bombing Japan for kicks and giggles. Japan attacked the United States in WWII, not the other way around. No Pearl Harbor bombing, no Nagasaki/Hiroshima bombing.
Call for Americans to repay the Asian-Americans placed in internment camps, if you want to complain about the US in WWII. Complain about the US involvement in Vietnam or Iraq, if you want to complain about the American military in general. But the US wanting to end a war into which they were forced with minimal loss of their own citizenry does not constitute a war crime.

Certainly, America should be punished.
Despite the two bombings, Japan is still most advanced nation.
@Chess-King30
I will sent this forum to the President of Japan and USA.
Contact me if you want personal number of those leaders. I can't share those details publicly!

Please tell me that I misinterpreted that, and that you do NOT believe Japan was in the right during WWII.

Japan had no fault in the WW2 (note that what Japanese military did was not part of WW2 as a whole)
Also, USA (along with Germany, UK and Russia) were responsible for WW2.

Good lord... I've been rereading this post for about 20 minutes, in the hopes that I merely overlooked the word "not" somewhere. Because that is the most idiotic, offensive bullshit I've seen in quite some time.
Quick history lesson, kiddo:
The Pacific War was a conflict that started when Japan decided to sucker-punch the US, Britain, and Thailand by attacking them without warning. That's not really a hot take or editorialization-- Pearl Harbor was famously bombed 8 hours before Japan issued a declaration of war.
The attacks against the Brits, Dutch, and Americans were in retaliation for trade embargoes imposed on Japan. These embargoes were themselves implemented in retaliation for Japan's aggression in the region against China and Vietnam. And when I say "aggression", I'm not talking about strong rhetoric or minor skirmishes-- these motherfuckers literally raped and murdered the city of Nanjing until a Nazi party leader intervened.
So tell me-- how is Japan blameless, but the US at fault?

You don't know the whole story nor do many. Almost everyone has suppressed the actual incident. Media filtrate information and spread only certain part of it which makes it vague.
The USA especially has done lot to hide true information of why World War actually started. Only few percent of people worldwide know the real story and I got to know about it via someone high professional personality.
And if I try to tell true picture then majority would refuse cause they are only taught incomplete history.
When some people of that era tried to reveal secrets, they were killed.
Telling truth about such things is like preaching to a buffalo, that is, hearer won't understand even a bit.

to my understanding, the majority of victims were civilians (among other big issues but this imo is the most maddening one). united states absolutely should be/should have been held responsible for this, but sadly united states gets away with unbelievably large number of war crimes with the perpetrators (such as george w bush along with like every us president) getting away with it completely. one day the madness has to end though!

Buffalo, my ass. My undergraduate thesis was about WWII's impact on global economies, which meant I had to do thorough research on the topic by analyzing both primary and secondary sources. I also have devoted the better part of my life to researching military history as a personal hobby.
Even if I weren't someone with specialized knowledge, history is impossible to fake on that scale. Events have been verified by many, many sources. There are still people alive today who remember WWII. I'm not sure who you talked to about WWII, because the extent of US involvement has never really been in question, but I highly doubt they make a convincing case for the US being responsible for WWII, despite the fact that the Sino-Japanese War (part of the Pacific theater) commenced 4 years before the US became involved in WWII. I assume it involves Einstein developing time machines.

In the first place, how can you guarantee what you researched is true?
I am not questioning your research, rather I am questioning the source!
And how can you guarantee that civilians of WW2 who are still alive recalling those incidents are telling us the truth.
It's like saying that a=b+1 without any base just because someone said it and not proved!
You never know what eludes us humans and what doesn't!
