Lichess has to crack down on game stalling

I played a classical game against this dude, and I'm not gonna say his name in case lichess doesn't like that.

With like 2 hours left on his time, I had mate in one. He asked if it was mate in one, and I said "yeah, i have it premoved" and he just left. I have it premoved, but can't really turn my computer off which is like mildly annoying.

The problem isn't that this happens, but it happens often enough that it reminded me of why I can't play classical chess. There is no "claim victory" button like 30 minutes in. I've been playing other games, and I just kinda have to sit there.

I checked this dudes account, and every game he lost (like 15 of them) were all by time. Crazy that after the 3rd or 4th he wasn't banned immediately, but these were all rated games.

You can try organized games for a more serious experience:

and

I've not played too many games on the ladder but the two I've had were very fun and intense. I'm still trying to sign up for the lonewolf League but its supposed to be really good. See for example:

It took longer than a month to ban a classical shield winner, who had been 1600 for a long time and then suddenly gained 1000 rating points. One cheater I reported in 2024 was banned just yesterday. Classical on lichess isn't always the best chess experience these days, for a few reasons.

@lonelypeanut makes a great point. I don't have time for a commitment right now, but I'm going to join one of these... one day.

The account OP played against is closed, by the way.
