5+3 arena tournament time control

How about a new arena tournament with 5+3 since many players have been requesting it and it's a good time control to improve your chess. It would be very good if there was at least a 5+3 daily arena, even better would be a 5+3 hourly arena.

So you want to play in arenas with beserking. Others like to play with increment because they like to play out their games without them becoming flagging contests.

You can always berserk if you want and play 2.5 + 0 or choose not to play in the arenas with increment.

If lichess can implement it, what's the big deal? People can choose to play in the tournaments if they want. As for berserking, thats they're choice. Lichess already has tournaments with increment, nothing wrong with that.

one issue may be, an hour won't be enough to play good amount of games because of the Incerement..

5+3 "catches up" with 10+0 on move 100. (3 seconds into 5 minutes). Most games don't last 100 moves - the reason for playing with increment is time management when you don't know exactly how long the game will be, and to prevent a situation where a game is dead-drawn but one of the players has less time on the clock, so the other one hopes to win by flagging. Or even where a player has an easy win but not much time remaining to play it out. With 3 seconds "increment" per move, the continuation in these situation may be pretty automatic.

In any case, there are a large number of players on lichess who

  1. would like to play with increment for the reasons I have just stated
  2. Play in arenas for fun with no expectation of winning, and might not even participate in the whole arena but play just a few games
  3. Are non-vocal on the site, they don't post in the forums, they just play chess

and I feel lichess doesn't cater for them with increment-based arenas and seems to give in to the vociferous "anti-increment" brigade.

There are loads of arenas without increment and nobody is saying that all arenas should have increment, just have a few for those who want them. Have some in variants too.

Maybe do a 5+3 arena during 2 hours, like the 10+0 rapid arena?

The players who want to berserk play in the hourly rapid arena while the players who want to play without berserk and improve their chess play in the 5+3 arena.

while the players who want to play without berserk and improve their chess play in the 5+3 arena.

then they might as well play swiss.

In a Swiss you have to play in every round.

Those who want to play more casually and come and go when they please (as long as it's between games), can play arenas.

You cannot even imagine how challenging it is to berserk against increments. :-)

To be honest, I do not understand why several people are jumping on the suggestion to offer more arena tournaments with increment. We clearly do not have enough of them. The only one blitz arena we offer on daily basis is that 3+2 thematical.

@jeffforever please forgive me the ping but I wanted you to notice this topic - maybe you can advice where they can find more tournaments with increments or we can discuss it with the content/orga-team?
