While it's true the opponent couldn't checkmate your king they can still end the game in a draw (which is their best bet). The only way to win in chess is a checkmate or your opponent resigning.

The FIDE rule is simple: If your time runs out, you lose. There's one exception to this rule, that is, if no checkmate is possible, the game is declared a draw.
It's possible to construct a checkmate from your final position (it doesn't matter how improbable it might be), so the exception to the rule does not apply. And that means you lost, you lost on time.

Can't tell if you are trolling or not, but he's playing from White's perspective.

Lichess uses FIDE rules, if any checkmate is possible(even a helpmate) when you run out of time, you lose.
