Maybe you shouldt try to improve the part of the internet connection you have under your control. I used to connect via a notebook and WLAN. After an operating system update I lost the WLAN connection quite often while on lichess, which lead to many lost games. I then added an additional Ethernet cable between my notebook and the router. This fixed the problem for me. My notebook now has two routes to the router, cable and WLAN. If one connection dies, the other will serve as a backup.

because the internet is like a bunch of roads taking your connection from point a aka you to point b aka lichess
now just because the road to lichess is bad does not mean the road to youtube would be bad as well
"for_cryingout_loud", your right.

just be thankful that you are using lichess for free...
or it's not enough?!

Why is this especially saddening for a 12-year-old?
Because if you're much older than that then you must have learned by now that it really doesn't matter.

Today I have played two games where I timed out because of internet. This is saddening, especially for me, a 12-year old. Can Lichess at least make internet timeouts a draw? A loss is would always be the loser's fault due to a mistake, but internet issues are never really anyone's fault. (TBH this has never happened to me anywhere else)
When you disconnect for at least like 20 seconds, the opponents have a choice to call it a draw or a win for the opponent

nope it dependent on time control how long they have to wait to claim on a win or a draw

for example in 30+20, it's like 115 seconds

Lichess won't know if it is ragequitting or just a bad wifi connection.
Cheaters could exploit by playing 2800+ and draw by disconnecting, which would gain them rating points

if you're in a losing position, unplug the router. Too easy!
