How long does it take to "get good"?

@wannabe2700
If we hadn't been in lockdown, i barely even know how to play chess! I don't have any talent for the game, and the only reason i have got to this not very impressive level is through hours of grinding. I won't be able to continue playing at the rate i am (school and exams) and i won't be able to improve at the rate i am. We also all have different ceilings of ability. Some people (like Hikaru) only reach that at 2800 elo. Im not special like them, and I guess i will have to just face not improving at some point :(
The amount of humble bragging in this thread is funny.

I'm <20 years old. I started playing <2 years ago. I carved my own chess pieces out of a potato. I am now 2X00+.
What about testing whether solving more puzzles makes you improve faster. I definitely play better if I do a few puzzles to warm up. I'd also be interested to see stats on puzzle Vs game rating. My blitz rating is consistently lower than my puzzle rating.

P.s. great work!
Good outcomes - you can even play a few games per day - but study your own games and train in a long time games :)

Thank you for this elaboration!
(600 USCF ~1100 Lichess) to the 90th percentile (1800 USCF, ~2000 Lichess)

@jcw024 and @lichess Have you got a full rating conversion table by any chance? :)
More than grandmasters i admire the hours of work that a player "german11" has put into his chess life - its a good point also in this study here. He has played 740 days of non-stop (mainly bullet) - played over 400.000 games :) and still has the good and steady level of 1000-1700 between different time controls - as all of us :)
