"Chess has risen in popularity in India... due to Anand"
Chess originates from India. On the other hand it's a huge country and in some regions chess could be more popular than in the other. In fact there are 447 native languages in India. Imagine that.
We meet in the park in Chicago when it's warm enough. We'll set up practically anywhere.
Here is Boston MA there are a couple of places where people play outside. Sometimes they will charge you $5 to play.
Not where I live in an old northern town in England I know they do in London .
Yes. People have play in chess in the park near Kyiv University, on Lviv Theater Square .... A few years ago, I personally played on Lviv`s square with a some old man, who turned out to be unexpectedly strong (we even had a small crowd of spectators!)- and I was happy when I managed achieve a draw. In my Rivne - very, very seldom, unfortunately. But, of course, all that was before the war.

> I've lived in NYC for 20 years and never saw anyone playing chess in the parks. I have seen many chess tables though that were built in the during LBJ times, but I've never saw them used except for eating lunch on. I believe in places of Russia and India this might be seen.

> Back in the days they use to play in washington square park of Manhattan from what I've heard. And according to youtube they now play in Union Park. I'm not sure. I've seen Botez sisters go there. But no i've never even met a chess player in real life. I only learned to play chess months ago.

Really? I've travelled to NYC for a few days in 2019 and I've seen a couple of older guys playing everyday
