Currently in order to solve puzzles you need to select the “correct” move in order to solve them. But I’ve seen puzzles with solutions that don’t make any sense and I’ve been able to find much better tactical solutions to the puzzles than the answers required for that puzzle. This leads me to conclude Lichess needs a tryout mode so players can “play out” their proposed solutions before entering the offical mode in order to solve puzzles. This allows the user the chance to test ideas in the puzzle before solving them. This is not cheating because in puzzle mode there is no analysis mode. But players should be allowed to move the pieces in puzzle mode to test their ideas before choosing the right one.
So my proposal is once you show a puzzle there are two options on the bottom. One a “tryout” mode and a “solve” mode. The tryout mode allows the user to freely move the pieces in the puzzle without penalty to test ideas. Once the player is satisfied with their solution...they enter “solve” mode. This one resets the puzzle and allows that user to officially solve that puzzle.

In normal chess games, you are also not able to "test" your ideas.
Solving puzzles is about practising to calculate the variations in your head.
It's not about getting the puzzle right, but about learning and improving.
I am quite sure that the solutions to the puzzles are always the best (even though it is sometimes not clear why), I have never seen a "wrong" solution yet.
You can always try your "solution" after making a "mistake" and see the evaluation of the engine and see what the engine would play.
If you find a "wrong" puzzle, feel free to share it :)

@Curious1 thats a very good idea but I see @Anton1000 s point. However I think that would be a great feature
