Reaching 2000 FIDE - a matter of luck?

Bro. you have max rate 2300 in lichess, i have 2800. My fide rate is 2120, and it is difficult to reach, and idk how you have reached 2000, with 2300 elo on lichess, it is 100% luck obviously.

lol, you have no classical games bro, what do you want? You can`t play like 2000, or in germany all the players are stupid.
If you have aquestions lets play match in control you want, i bet i can win you at zero

Can we stop with the hostility? The original poster for this forum was simply expressing interest in their recent tournament performance. There is absolutely no need and no reason to 1. try to discourage them with hostility, or 2. Be disrespectful and unsportsmanlike. Ratings on here as ratings on chess.com are, in some ways, overrated and inflated, unless you are a titled master ranked player. They aren't a good judgment of playing strength.

I am not trying to start drama but this is getting out of hand. If you can't respect the individual across the board then do not get involved.

I know plenty of people who are rated 2000+ FIDE who, if you sat them down on lichess might struggle to maintain a rating of 1800, (or even 1600 if we were talking blitz or bullet)! Plenty of IMs (so 2400 OTB at some point) hover around 2300 on lichess so I don’t think you can make that comparison.

I thought he did a pretty good job, especially when you consider he turned down a draw with black against an IM in the final round to try to reach his goal - and against the infamous Ali Habibi as well!

Good effort and here’s to the next milestone :)

Exactly.

"IM" Habibi is well known to complain whenever possible. I'm also fairly sure that there was no train at all - not that it would be your problem to begin with. Either way congrats on your good result.

There's a reason the old quote that 'Chess is a game where the winner is he who makes the second to last mistake.' has been attributed to no less than Tartakower, Lasker, and numerous other great players. I'm sure we'd still be saying it today if not for the fact everybody already knows it!

Congrats!

Yeah I learned my lesson there. I answered to him that I wouldn't accept a draw because otherwise I wouldn't reach 2000. I should have made my move silently and gone on to win.
