"is victorious"

There is a difference between a victory and a win. A victory is a big deal, typically the result of a major struggle against the odds, a win is routine. Your every day game on lichess is a win. If you beat someone with a rating way higher than yours after an epic struggle then that's a victory.
i love words, their etymology, etc. i think (full disclosure, I failed english in school) white is victorious and white has won would be equivalent, not white wins. To me white is victorious is more poetic, and it might have been written by a french dude. Everything I know about the french I learnt from cartoons and movies, so, you know, accurate, and the french are poetic.
They're synonymous. In the Spanish translation, they use the verb ganar meaning to win.
Why not avoid this confusing terminology all together and choose more neutral phrases such as:

- "White obliterated black."
- "Black mopped the floor with white."
- "The game ended in a disgraceful draw."
