Opponent leaves game, game is aborted???

I got to a winning position in my game. Opponent left the game.

The game was recorded as "aborted" -- I had no way of claiming a victory. Game is not even showing up in my history!

What's going on here??

the server crashed, lots of games were aborted. it's a pretty rare occurrence.
