Not sure if this helps, but I had this issue too and just refreshing the browser cache (CTRL+F5) a couple of times resolved the problem. Thanks to the dev for fixing it.

I just experienced the invisible rooks bug. Windows 10, Firefox 140.0.4, Nvidia Geforce GT 1030 2 GB GDDR5. Played a bullet game with the black pieces and after a couple of moves I noticed that both of my opponent's rooks were invisible.
