Unfortunately the puzzle ratings have became meaningless anyway since V2 (my opinion) .. hope everyone enjoys their 400 point uplift ..

I think what things can prove or do prove, aren't as obvious as you would want them to be sometimes or they are so obvious that they are overlooked, but I understand your point about the 400 points.

I don't think it's possible to have such a large overhaul of the puzzle system, including all-new puzzles, puzzle types and difficulty levels, and not end up in a situation where puzzles & peoples scores end up quite different to what they were before. I believe the points awarded are related to their difficulty which is determined partly by how many people get them right/wrong, so when only a handful of people have played them this number is not going to be very sound. I'm sure they'll settle over time. I'm also uncertain as to how the difficulty level affects your score. Perhaps this is as simple as "select easy and get easy, low scoring puzzles you'll get heavily punished for getting wrong". If so, then it might be a bit of a risk selecting easy if you're precious about your rating as you might get a hard puzzle currently rated as easy because a good player got it right and end up losing a bunch of points!
Personally I treat my rating as something purely used to assess how I'm doing and would not consider comparing it with other peoples. So the 400 point christmas bonus uplift isn't a problem. Surely comparing ratings has now got if anything even more pointless as how can I compare my "healthy mix, normal difficulty" based rating with someone who just plays "mate in 1, easy" puzzles all day?

The feature would also need a minimum puzzles completed to be a useful filter for selecting opponents for games. Thank you all for replying, especially those who are opposed to giving added protection and options to innocent players. I love fly paper for catching flies. I enjoy a good flyswatter also.
