Good sound defence, but black has to be careful to avoid bad pawns and early losses.
Yes you're right I'm practicing Caro kann from last 5.5 years
Playing as white, I find it very hard to have a correct plan to attack - CK is very solid.
I tried many times the Panov variation 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3. ed5 cd5 4. c4 but without success...
I play the Caro-Kann once in a while but in my opinion most of the positions are rather dry. Of all the mainstream 1 e4 defenses the Caro has the least tactical activity for either side. I only play it as a break from my Sicilian or when I don't want to calculate wild positions. When I played 1 e4 myself I found the Caro to be a tough nut to crack. In most e4 defenses there are a lot of tactics and either side can get overrun by force. If there's an exception it's the Caro. There are lines in the Advance Caro with lots of tactics but black can often sac a kingside pawn and get a vicious counterattack.
I'll always have the Caro in my repertoire along with the Sicilian and the Alekhine. It's nice to have a weapon that gives you a calmer game.
The Caro-Kann Defense is recognised as being one of the top 4 defenses to 1.e4. As to which position it occupies among the top 4, the answer will vary depending on who you ask. Generally, it's solid, if a bit less dynamic, with a good potential end-game for Black, and can be more intuitive to play for some. Experienced CK players are incredibly difficult to take down. If you're thinking of adopting it, give it a try and see if you like it and understand the ideas :)
As white I find itβs mostly good for white playing the fantasy variation which I have a performance rating of about 1800(e4 c6 d4 d5 f3) so idk if I will ever try it as black
